To help out a bit while we are all staying at home, I have made up craft packs for local children that I can drop off to their front doors during my daily exercise walk. These are the first two packs I did. They contain some general craft items such as glue, card, funky foam and googly eyes. They also have some projects to do with all the pieces needed to complete the projects. I have put up some examples of the projects below.

I made this card for my husband on valentines day this year. I used one of a Clarity texture stamps to do the background with some acrylic paint on top. The cats were from 'The Project Bin' - it is a lovely stamp and die combination set and included the sentiment. I stamped, die cut then coloured the cats using water based marker pens. I found the three little hearts on an old set of adhesive gemstones. I tried to colour the cat on the left like our much loved Meribel.
I find using calendar tabs to make gifts at Christmas time a great idea. They are reasonably quick and easy to make (depending on what you decided to do of course), and are inexpensive to send through the post. The one above was created during a papercraft demonstration last year using: white smooth card, craft card, coloured wooden embellishment and brush markers (felt-tips) to create a slightly 'folk art' edge. These are great for children to make as well. Below are some more ideas of calendars from various years. Stamping on coloured parchment produces a lovely effect. You need to remember to stamp on the duller side using a achival ink and then do your other work from the back. In this case it was using an eraser to take away some of the parchment colour then replacing it with the colour I wanted using pencils. The small white parts were done with a white gel pen but could also have been easily achieved by embossing the parchment. Using white card behind the parchment brings out all the colours very nicely I think.
Finished this one just before Christmas. It was the next project in my book of learning Bucks Point Lace by Geraldine Stott. I photographed this on the lace pillow so you can still see where all the pins have been. The pattern is called Rosemary. Just need to decided what to turn the piece into - a photo frame or sew some linen into the middle, or perhaps a fancy frame for some embroidery. I think my joining of the lace (end to the start of the piece) is getting better - can you spot where that is? There is also a single error with the gimp that is doing the circles near the outer edge - see if you can spot that also.
These lovely reindeer are from Stamps Away. The smaller two were covered with paper and then edged with co-ordinating ink/paint. The large deer was painted with black gesso then decorated using a Claritystamp stencil and Lustre Lux paints. It took a while to do the smaller paper decorated deer because to get a nice finish on the edges I stuck the paper on then sanded all around the edges until the excess paper came off. They sat on the piano over the Christmas period. They are now put away until Christmas this year. Perhaps I could waterproof them so they could sit outside near the front door. Some more photos of the reindeer are below.
Hello everyone, sorry I haven't blogged for a while - I became very busy doing Christmas projects and finishing off my demonstrations for the year. I thought I would show this card today made using a gelli plate; some alcohol inks, a stencil and some acrylic paint. Barbara Gray from Claritystamp shows a similar technique in this YouTube video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmGjWJRb_BY), however for the technique used here you wait for the ink to dry; put the stencil on top of your piece of card; put the thin layer of paint onto the gelli plate on top of you dried alcohol inks then press through the stencil. Remove, let the paint dry the apply another layer of paint and make another print. You should end up with two opposite type prints as shown below. Once you have made your prints and they have dried you need to finish making your card. This birthday card is currently winging its way to New Zealand for my mother-in-law. It is parchment work using Groovi plates, a felt tip pen and card stock. The parchment square was cut out using the Clarity picot dies as was the piece of white card stock. There is a matching Groovi plate which I used to add the border onto the parchment. I used two different Groovi plates for the main body of work on the parchment. I used a whole circle image for the butterfly picture and an additional image from the plate to create the smaller butterfly, then pierced and picot cut this out separately. The background dots were created using the diagonal piercing grid and a ball tool. I coloured in the parts you can see using a single coloured felt tip pen. The most difficult part was finding some card to perfectly match the pen colour. Found the words 'On your special day' from a different Groovi plate, then carefully tore out the words and wrapped around the card. The parchment and white card are held together with white brads, the white card was then adhered to the coloured card.
I think I got a little ink on the main dot part of the parchment work, and some of my lines aren't as straight as they could be, but overall I was pleased with how it turned out - I think two toned pieces are very striking to look at - what do you think? So I finally finished doing the Craftalong with Leonie from June. I didn't have any Distress Oxide sprays so just used what I had on my shelf - some of them happened to be metallic; which I think look great. A lot of the programme was about creating backgrounds which I have kept to use later. The work was completed on either Clarity stencil card or water paper. The image above was the only piece that was turned into a completed art work from the show. I will try and post on here if I use any of the backgrounds for other art work. Hochanda have a different Craftalong show each month and you can order the main products that are going to be used in that show as a kit before the show airs on the television. This technique uses tissue paper that will bleed when water is applied. I have used watercolour card for all these cards because of the application of the water. All you need to do is lay down your tissue paper where you would like it on your paper, spritz with water then cover with something non-porous such as acetate or a poly-pocket. You can then use your hand on top of the cover to gently move some of the colour that bleeds out of the tissue around. Leave for a short amount of time, it doesn't take long; if you leave it too long the tissue paper will dry onto your watercolour card. Lift the cover off and remove all of the wet tissue; the colour from the tissue should have bled into your watercolour card. Leave to dry then stamp on top with archival ink or apply a die cut. Remember if you apply anything else water-based it may move or bleed into your background. On the image above I used some Darkroom Door stamps. This card was made for my sister for her birthday. Below is a full image of the card and then some other cards made using the same tissue technique for the background.
